Kink friendly events compared

Here is my take on various kink friendly events

All these events are ok to attend as a single and many singles do attend. There are lots of workshops and rituals you can attend either single or partnered at all of them. I would guess about 50% of attendees are single.

Here are some comparisons - I am interested in what others think too

80 Weekend event during year. Summer Camps in July and August So including all meals, a weekend events are usually $50-$150 (sliding scale), a 10 day event is $500-$1000 (sliding scale), and for those who cannot afford even that, scholarships are usually generous and easily available. 20-80 Poly, sex positive Very supportive, expects you to grow and supports you when buttons are pushed Michael and Sarah

NFNC stands for the Network For a New Culture, a grassroots non-organization devoted to personal growth, social change, and intimate community  (www.nfnc.org).  New Culture hosts a variety of events, as well as creating an ongoing community of folks who value transparency, sex-positivity, personal choice and freedom, sustainability, intimacy, and more  (http://cfnc.us/newculture.html).    There is a strong sense of extended family, or “tribe”, among folks who have participated in New Culture events.  Strong friendship networks and intimate connections often form during events, and these connections are nurtured in a variety of ways so that they become part of a person’s everyday life.

The events are all-volunteer, and costs are kept as low as possible; while there are transformative workshops and powerful experiences at these events, they are meant to be part of a new way of living, loving and celebrating, not just isolated “escapes” from regular life.

New Culture Summer Camp East will be July 8-17, 2011 (www.cfnc.us).

New Culture weekends occur frequently; here are the dates and locations of the ones that are already set for 2011:

January 7-9 in Arlington VA

February 25-27 in Plainfield MA

March 25-27 in Kinnelon NJ (near NYC)

There are a variety of other evening, day-long, and weekend New Culture events throughout the year.  We have an announcements list for these events that anyone interested in New Culture events can be added to; just send the request to [email protected].

Scientist says animals have spiritual experiences, too

When you next connect with an animal perhaps it is on the spiritual level too... And next time you eat part of an animal you might want to say thanks to its spirit for providing the food...

Scientist says animals have spiritual experiences, too

by David Gutierrez, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Humans are not the only animals that have spiritual and mystical experiences, a growing number of biologists are becoming convinced.

Studies continue to trace many of these experiences to very old sections of the human brain, in regions shared by many other animals. For example, out-of-body experiences are associated with activity in the region of the brain that regulates states of consciousness in mammals.

"In humans, we know that if we disrupt the (brain) region where vision, sense of motion, orientation in the Earth's gravitational field, and knowing the position of our body all come together, then out-of-body experiences can be caused literally by the flip of a switch," said neurologist Kevin Nelson of the University of Kentucky, author of The Spiritual Doorway in the Brain.

"There is absolutely no reason to believe it is any different for a dog, cat, or primate's brain."

Mystical experiences have been linked to the brain's limbic system, another ancient region, and the removal of this region actually makes animals immune to psychedelic drugs.

Ecologist Mark Bekoff and primatologist Jane Goodall have both observed chimpanzees dancing with abandon at ephemeral waterfalls after heavy rains, working themselves into an apparently trance-like state.

"Is it not possible that these ... performances are stimulated by feelings akin to wonder and awe?" Goodall said. "After a waterfall display the performer may sit on a rock, his eyes following the falling water. What is it, this water?"

"Perhaps numerous animals engage in these rituals, but we haven't been lucky enough to see them," Bekoff wrote in Psychology Today.

"For now, let's keep the door open to the idea that animals can be spiritual beings."

Nelson echoed that sentiment.

"Since only humans are capable of language that can communicate the richness of spiritual experience, it is unlikely we will ever know with certainty what an animal subjectively experiences," Nelson said.

"Despite this limitation, it is still reasonable to conclude that since the most primitive areas of our brain happen to be the spiritual, then we can expect that animals are also capable of spiritual experiences."

Erotic Reading Night 2/9/11 - Wed Gathering in Rockville

This Wednesday Sandbox gathering we share Erotic Reading Night with Nancy Smeltzer. She writes: "Dear Ones, a few years ago, I suggested the idea of having an erotic reading night for a Sandbox Gathering. A Sacred Sexuality group that I belong to out in the Bay area, did it once as a bedtime gathering for the group….sort of an adult version of story time. People could either bring something they had written, or pick something that appealed to them. (It was very interesting how differently men and women choose what turns them on.)"

We did the same thing for a Sandbox event last year, and it was one of the best attended events ever. Randy and I thought it might be fun to do again, so on Feb. 9th, 2011, for Valentine’s Day, bring us your steamiest best, and after dinner, we'll have a go at tickling your auditory sensations. Please keep the reading time to five minutes, as there were a LOT of people who didn’t get to read last time. Be on time, as the reading will start at 8pm, and you don’t want to miss out on one juicy moment. Who’s bringing the chocolate????

Nancy Smeltzer is a co-developer of the energy healing technique, Renaissance of the Heart. www.hearthealing.net Together with her healing partners, Dr. Mary Pellicer, MD, and Ceitllyn Connal, their modality has been used with clients in their long distance healing practice throughout the US and Canada; Russia, Switzerland; and Australia. As a self-taught clairvoyant, clairaudient, and clairsentient, she describes as being enrolled in the “School of the Divine”, and is “shown” what she needs to know in order to help her clients. Nancy also uses her skills in her ongoing research in consciousness and has collaborated with a number of other alternative healers.

The reading begins after dinner at 8pm. I invite you to join us, though as always what ever choice you make you will be honored in.

Black Hat Tantric Feng Shui 2/2/11 - Wed Gathering in Rockville

This Wednesday Sandbox gathering we join Rukmini Diane Maria Bongiorni for an evening of Black Hat Tantric Sect Feng Shui. Feng Shui is the Chinese art of organizing your environment for more success, a better health, and a happier life.

During this evening, we will explore a guided meditation entitled, "Meditation of the Five Religious Founders and Manjushri Budhisattva." Each person selects their own five religious founders for the meditation. Manjushri Budhisattva represents the highest wisdom and carries a sword, indicating his mastry of strong law to stop a person from committing any injurious act. After the meditation, we will discuss individual cures for various areas of human life.

The basic difference between Compass School and Black Sect Feng Shui is the use of directions as an absolute. When I was in China in October three Feng Shui masters told me that my home was facing the wrong direction. All three suggested the only thing I could do to remedy that drastic problem was to move. In my opinion these theories were based on information thousands of years ago, when picking up and moving was easy and practical.

Today, in this hemisphere and with the scarcity of good Real Estate it is simply not realistic or practical. Another major difference is the reliance on astrological information. Compass bases the orientation of the direction of the Bagua on this information. There are different views within the school on how to do find that. Some suggest there is a head of household. Yet in this country marriages and partnerships are theoretically based on equality.

In the BTB school, astrological information is very important to the success and happiness in ones life. The key to a healthy, prosperous balanced life culminates several factors: karma, education and application - how you take of yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, spiritual practices, accumulation of good deeds, destiny - astrology, and Feng Shui. Each aspect can be used as a tool to enhance your life and well being. So if one practices spirituality in all aspects of your life the quality improves even if let's intelligence was not something you were born with a great deal of this aspect will be greatly improved. BTB Feng Shui is used in homes and businesses quite successfully throughout the world. From WOFS website

Rukmini Diane Bongiorn is a Feng Shui consultant, energy healer, and tarot reader. She studied for several years with Grandmaster Thomas Lin Yun, who brought Feng Shui to America. She is also a student of Eileen Conti Weklar, a senior student of Grandmaster's for decades. dbongiorni (at) hotmail.com or 202-744-3698

Crossing The Event Horizon 1/26/11 - Wed Gathering in Rockville

This Wednesday Sandbox gathering we learn about Nassim Haramein's life-long exploration into the geometry of space time and a coherent understanding of the fundamental structure and model of our Universe and our existence in it. This ground breaking work launches us into the
New Energy Movement

You are invited to an introduction of one of the most profound scientific theories of our time. Haramein's scientific discovery ( a published peer reviewed unified field theory) may well be the physics of creation, the scientific explanation of spirituality that supports the basis of most religions of a conscious energy field underlying all of physical reality. The theory also explains some of the strange observations of solar flares by the Japanese space telescope (see video below)

We will view footage from the DVD "Crossing The Event Horizon" which can be ordered from Nassim's website www.theresonanceproject.org. The following text is from this site:

We are living at a critical time in history. The work done in our interdisciplinary research park may be crucial to our capacity to overcome the ecological and technological difficulties our world faces today.

A New Spin on Einstein’s Field Equations

Director of Research Nassim Haramein and scientists at the Resonance Project Foundation have found a new solution to Einstein’s field equations which incorporates torque and Coriolis effects. Furthermore, calculations were rendered to describe the collective and coherent behavior of the plasma dynamics of ergospheres orbiting the event horizons of black holes demanding a highly structured polarized vacuum, resulting in an alternative view of black holes where the exterior white hole portion surrounds the interior black hole singularity.

From these calculations, a new paper has recently been released entitled Scale Unification – A Universal Scaling Law For Organized Matter, which describes our universe as embedded white hole / black hole or white / black “whole” structures from universal size to atomic and subatomic scales.

Instead of seeing ourselves as separate from everything around us, this view allows us to recognize that we are embedded in a fractal feedback dynamic that intrinsically connects all things via the medium of a vacuum structure of infinite potential. This research has far reaching implications in a variety of fields including theoretical and applied physics, cosmology, quantum mechanics, biology, chemistry, sociology, psychology, archaeology, anthropology, etc. A fundamental understanding of the dynamics of this interconnectivity redefines the lens through which we see the universe and our place in it, and leads to theoretical and technological advancements that move us towards a sustainable future. This new approach to the physics of universal forces has the potential to solve the most pressing issues of our times.

Following the movie Sandra Soloman will lead a discussion about the science and spirit and how we can be in contact with our power, divinity and responsiblity now.

Infinity Releasing 1/19/11 - Wed Gathering in Rockville

This Wednesday Sandbox gathering we learn about Infinity Releasing with Nancy Smeltzer. Are you performing below your peak? Would you like to get unstuck in your relationships, health or job? Would you like to be able to give yourself future tune ups on your own at home?

Infinity Releasing is a powerful technique that can assist you in clearing any issue that is blocking you from achieving your peak performance. This short process was originally developed to help athletes move out of a slump and stay in “the Zone”, but it has been adapted so a wide range of issues can be addressed, such as relationship, health, or job performance concerns. It’s a relatively quick process to learn and use, so come join the hundreds who have already learned this method and begin to experience relief from your life issues.

Ceitllyn Connal says:

We have an amazing tool that we teach in our sessions and in workshops called Infinity Releasing. It is a very powerful tool that anyone with any issue can use and have a good measure of relief. It is a wonderful technique to know especially when emotions are raw and you don’t know what else to do. It is very simple and easy to use. There are not many words to remember and it is very handy and portable!  I am honored to share with you just how powerful Infinity Releasing and surrendering to the Divine really is.

My son died May 25, 2009 at about 8am or so Pacific time. That is very specific for me right now. It is amazing to look back over those moments when the phone rang, the world stopped moving, I was hearing words coming through a black talking device and I stopped understanding anything. I had always imagined what would happen whenever I got call like that, now I know. It just happened so automatically like something on television or in the stories; it was very surreal and ethereal. There was a floating feeling, disconnecting from all of reality, as I knew it. It was comforting and disorienting at the same time. It is still hard to remember much except the doctor’s phone call and her words and my scream. More at http://awakentoyourheart.blogspot.com/2009/09/www.hearthealing.net

Light your Dark with Jung 1/12/11 - Wed Gathering in Rockville

This Wednesday Sandbox gathering we learn about Jungian Psychology with Randy Goldberg.  Do you sabotage yourself in love or business? Are you affraid of your shadow side? Would you like to be more in touch with your devine feminine?

Join us on this as a downward movement towards the shadow, the wound, the feminine.

This evening we will explore ideas about the ego/Self axis, complexes, archetypes, mid-life crisis, personality types, and alchemy. Carl Jung’s recently published Red Book made the NY Times top 10 best seller list, close to one hundred years after it was created. It is his personal diary and mandalas, detailing his descent into his unconscious with the use of a technique called Active Imagination. Jung felt that the real spirituality after the age 40 was shadow work.

“Enlightenment is not imagining figures of light but making the darkness conscious.” - Jung

Jung developed his own distinctive approach to the study of the human mind. In his early years when working in a Swiss hospital with schizophrenic patients and working with Sigmund Freud and the burgeoning psychoanalytic community, he took a closer look at the mysterious depths of the human unconscious. Fascinated by what he saw (and spurred on with even more passion by the experiences and questions of his personal life) he devoted his life to the exploration of the unconscious.

Unlike many modern psychologists, Jung did not feel that experimenting using natural science was the only means to understand the human psyche. For him, he saw as empirical evidence the world of dream, myth, and folklore, as the promising road to its deeper understanding, and meaning. That method's choice is related with his choice of the object of his science. As Jung said, "The beauty about the unconscious is that it is really unconscious". Hence, the unconscious is 'untouchable' by experimental researches—actually it is out of any possible kind of scientific or philosophic reach precisely because it is unconscious.

Although the unconscious can't be studied by using direct approaches it is according to Jung, at least, a useful hypothesis. His postulated unconscious was quite different of the model that was proposed by Freud, despite the great influence that the founder of Psychoanalysis had on Jung. The most known difference is the assumption of the collective unconscious (see also Jungian archetypes). Although Jung's proposal of collective unconscious, and archetypes, was based on the assumption of the existence of psychic (mental) patterns. These patterns include conscious contents - thoughts, memories, et al. - which came from life experience. They are common to each human being and, actually, they're precisely what makes every human being have something in common. His proof of the vast collective unconscious was his concept of synchronicity, that inexplicable, uncanny connectedness that we all share. Homeopathy for Healing 1/5/11 - Wed Gathering in Rockville

This Wednesday Sandbox gathering we learn about Homeopathy for healing without potentially dangerous drugs with Miah Kim. Are you tired of paying high prices at the pharmacy? Do you get too many side effects from multiple drugs? Would you like to try a more natural approach that uses the body's own healing abilities?

Homeopathy works by stimulating the body’s own natural ability to heal itself. Its basic principles date back to Hippocrates and were further developed almost two hundred years ago by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician. Homeopathic remedies, which are energized preparations derived from natural substances like herbs, minerals and animal products, provoke a healing response in an individual’s vital force, treating the root causes of illnesses which may include emotional conditions.

We will also go over the cold and flu remedies that are helpful for this winter season.

Miah Kim is certified by the Caduceus Institute of classical homeopathy, a professional-level training program in homeopathy.

You can reach  Miah Kim at Classical Homeopath 571-377-9930 or miah_kim (at) yahoo.com

How do I change myself easier and faster?

Why do we do what we do? And if we don't like what we do how can we change it? Or how can we get more of what we do like? In this TED talk Tony Robbins discusses the "invisible forces" that motivate everyone's actions -- and high-fives Al Gore in the front row.

Do schools kill creativity?

As change gets faster with tech and social changes we need more creativity to grow and prosper. But do schools kill creativity? This TED talk by Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.
